Driver Loses Work & Pay Taxi To Fire

Mr Wisdom Quashie, a 25-year- old taxi driver, on Monday had his taxi completely burnt on the New Achimota Overhead. No death or injury was recorded as both the driver and one other passenger escaped unhurt when the vehicle, which was acquired on a work-and-pay loan policy at a cost of 15, 000 Ghana Cedis, caught fire. Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency on Monday, Mr.Quashie said he was hired by Mr. Anthony Walker at Amasaman to Achimota where the unfortunate incident occurred. He said as he got to the New Achimota overhead the started ejecting, a situation he guessed to be an electrical fault which compelled him to stop and called a mechanic to fix the fault. Mr Quarshie said he noticed fire coming out of the vehicle and alerted the mechanic and took out a fire extinguisher but the fire spread quickly and burnt the car completely. He said other drivers and pedestrians assisted with fire extinguishers but it was to no avail, adding "I dont know what to even say or do now'. Mr.Walker, the only passenger in the car who later spoke to the GNA also expressed dismay about the incident. He said "this car moved alright as we came from Amasaman where I hired it without any problem until we got here."
