Final Funeral Rite Of Prof. Awoonor Held In Wheta

The final funeral rite of the late Professor Kofi Awoonor has been held at Wheta, his hometown in the Ketu North district of the Volta Region. The late poet was shot and killed in a terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi last September where 63 others died. A private funeral ceremony was held for the late former Council of State Chairman, Prof. Kofi Awoonor on October 3. It was followed by a public funeral at the State House on October 11. President Mahama and some government officials joined the chiefs and people of Wheta to pay their last respect to the late poet. Radio XYZ�s Kwame Danso Acheampong who is present at the Funeral grounds said the atmosphere was characterized by a mixture of cerebration and mourning. The funeral rite was reportedly interspersed with According singing of traditional dirges, drumming and dancing by family members of the late poet.
