Ghana To Get A New National Carrier

Minister of Transport, Dzifa Ativor says plans are underway to purchase a new airline for the nation. The new airline is to replace the derelict national air plane, Ghana Airways, and give Ghanaians the opportunity to boast of their own national carrier again. The Minister, in an interview with Radio Gold, bemoaned the operations of the erstwhile Kufour government which resulted in the fortunes of the national asset going down the drain. According to her, the NPP government under the leadership of President J.A Kufour liquidated the national asset and abandoned it but to her, hope is on the way. She assured the citizenry that the John Mahama-led "government has started a process of setting up a new national carrierAs you may recall, in the State of the Nation address of His Excellency the President; he made it clear that we will be setting up a new national carrier based on a PPP basis. So, we needed a competent experienced company to guide the process so that we dont repeat what happened earlier on. So, the process has begun. The companies submitted their documentations and evaluation process is ongoing. It is of much relevance to get "a national carrier which will transport passengers to one destination and that is Kotoka for redistribution," she stated. Meanwhile, the Minister is in the Volta Region to inspect an earmarked land for the construction of a new Regional airport.
