Assassination Attempt On My Life...I Have No Confidence In Adentan Police

Out-going Adentan Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Nubyl Kakra Van Lare has expressed lack of confidence in the Adentan District Police in investigating circumstances surrounding the assassination attempt on her life. According to the Madam Van Lare, six Assembly members in the municipality attempted to assassinate her by removing bolts from her official car that could have caused her life, if her driver did not see and removed them. She therefore accused the Adentan District Commander for not handling the issues well after she had lodged a complaint for investigations to be conducted on the case. The out-going MCE noted that she does not feel safe going about her administrative work as a result of the attempt on her life. "I have transferred the case from Adentan Police station to the Regional police command because this is an attempt on my life and the district commander, for me, did not handle the issue well. so I do not have confidence in Adentan. That is why i decided to transfer the case to the Central police station in Greater Accra for them to take a look at it", the out-going MCE intimated. Currently, the Greater Accra Police will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the assassination attempt on the life of the Out-going Adentan MCE. This was as a result of the demands of the Outgoing Adentan MCE for her complaint to be investigated by the Accra Regional Police Command. Last Thursday, some six assembly members embarked on a demonstration to register their displeasure about her continuous stay in office, but the MCE told JOYNEWS that she will only vacate her post on the authorization of the President. " I am chief Executive in Adentan, when these young men, eleven of them decided to vote against me. I couldn't make the 50%. I have no problem with that. It is legal. I mean, they have their legal rights. But I believe that I was brought into office by an appointment letter and I also want to believe that the President would have to revoke your appointment with a letter authorizing you to hand over to the minister. I have not had any such letter. So, I want to believe that until then, I should remain there and do the administrative aspect of the work", Madam Van Lare stressed. Narrating the assassination attempt on her life to Joy News Michaella Anderson, the out-going Adentan MCE noted that she was about to leave the office after close of work, one Thursday, when the security man told her that he was not comfortable with the movements of some Assembly members downstairs. According to her, information was not forth-coming so she decided to call the Adentan District Police Commander for security, adding that as she was ushered down the stairs by a policeman, one of six assembly members around rushed on her but was prevented by the policeman. When the assemblyman was asked of his mission, he indicated to the policeman that she wanted to ask when their sitting allowances would be paid, Madame Van Lare indicated. "The policeman asked me to enter the car and as we were about to enter the car, the driver told me that he can't move the car because they have removed the bolts on the car. We went round and take a look and true too, they have taken the bolts off the vehicle, making it impossible for me to move. So the police asked Tony Blair [Assembly Member for New Legon], who had boldly come out to say he was the leader and he accepted that they the six assembly members took the bolt", She narrated. Subsequently, when the assembly members were asked to produce the bolts, it was not forthcoming, the Out-going MCE noted, adding; "so I ordered for their arrest and we all ended up at the police station". Madame Van Lare further revealed that when the six assembly members were asked at the police station about the missing bolts, they confirmed that they removed them, as three of them produced two each of the bolts after the Adenta District Commander asked them to make them available. Sergeant Kwame Danso, who is with the Accra Regional Police Public Affairs told Joy News that fresh investigations into the case is underway. According to him, the docket had been transferred from the Adentan District Police station, adding, " now that we have taken delivery of the docket, we are going to begin fresh investigations then people who will be find liable as far as offences are concerned, will be put before the court". Meanwhile, President John Mahama has nominated the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Greater Accra regional Vice Chairperson, Gifty Emefa Nartey, to take up the role of the new Municipal Chief Executive of Adentan.
