A member of the Communications Team of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Charles Owusu, says President John Dramani Mahama cannot be solely blamed for the recent corruption which has engulfed his administration. He is however calling for a collective effort from all in the fight against corruption since the president cannot exclusively identify all the institutional weaknesses. Charles Owusu was reacting to claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and some individuals that President Mahama lacks the commitment and fortitude to fight the canker. According to him, the president, since assuming power, has strengthened anti-corruption units like Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently. Discussing the issue of corruption on Adom FM, the PPP communicator opined that �even in this country, when you jail someone for corruption, another president will grant the person pardon. The money will not be refunded as well. This encourages offenders to loot from government coffers all the time.� Adding that, �It�s not about blaming the President (Mahama) all the time; the President cannot wake up to arrest people for corruption. There are institutions mandated to handle such situations but they are not working�they are not performing. The President should not be ordering the Attorney General to do this or do that. What is the duty of the Attorney General department if they can�t help to fight corruption?� He further posited that �President Mahama is not going to be the only one who will be embarrassed if corruption engulfed this country. The whole nation will bear the shame. If Ghana develops under President Mahama, it�s a plus for us all as Ghanaians. If we don�t join hands to fight this canker, we will regret one day. If President Mahama is ready to fight corruption, let�s all help him.�
