It appears the challenge thrown by aide to 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP,) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mustapha Hamid, to Minister of State at the Presidency in charge of Allied Institutions, Fifi Kwetey, to write just one academic article on economics for publication in an Afghan journal is gaining currency among Ghanaians. Most respondents in a random interview conducted by the Today newspaper responded in the affirmative to the question as to whether that was necessary at all. According to some of the respondents, it was necessary the loud-mouthed minister undertake the exercise to prove his worth as an upcoming economist. �� yes, he [Fifi Kwetey] is always questioning the intelligence of people� this is the time for him to also prove how intelligent he is and how bad the people he criticises are�,� a Civil Servant, Kwame Mintah Mensah, told our reporter. Mustapha Hamid challenged the minister to write just one academic article on economics for publication in an Afghan journal and see the response he will get from his reviewers. �Let Fifi Kwetey write one academic article on Economics. Don�t take it to Oxford Journal of Economics. He should take it to a journal in Afghanistan and await reviewers� response, then he will understand what it takes to be a recognised academic,� Hamid fired on Joy FM. Since the challenge, the former finance minister has refused comments on that with him coiling into his shells and refusing to criticise the NPP 2012 running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on any platform. Fifi Kwetey, according to Mustapha Hamid, had described as �unintelligent� a review of the state of the Ghanaian economy conducted by the former deputy editor of the Bank of Ghana. This description, according to some members of the public, was in sour taste as the holder of doctorate degree in economics proved he was far-intelligent than Fifi Kwetey who is known in Ghanaian public circles for propaganda. �He [Fifi Kwetey] should also tell us what necessitated his removal from the Finance Ministry as deputy Minister if not his abysmal performance�,� Ayibontey Richard, a private businessman, said. Ayibontey continued that his non-performance at the ministry is the cause of Ghana�s economic woes since the NDC assumed office in 2009. �He should thank God for contesting on NDC ticket as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Volta Region where he won easily, otherwise with his low self-esteem and jealousy of successful people, he would never have genuinely attained any government position,� Ayi added. Ayi further described the current position given the former NDC propaganda secretary �as nothing more than a job for the boys� portfolio otherwise it does not make governance sense to separate Allied institutions from the Ministry of Finance.� Others however were of the opinion that it was not necessary for the NDC man to respond to the challenge since it will not bring food to the table of Ghanaians.
