Black Stars Win Hearts Of Egyptian Fans

Ghanas Black Stars won the hearts of Egyptian fans after achieving qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup at the expense of the Pharaohs. The Stars lost 2-1 to their Egyptian counterparts in their playoff return in Cairo on Tuesday, to advance 7-3 on aggregate. In the build up to the game, the Egyptians appeared confident the Pharaohs could win 5-0 and oust the Stars, but as the game wore on, their hopes began to fade. Moments after Amr Zaki scored the opener on 25 minutes, the stadium erupted into ecstasy as the enthusiastic crowd saw it as the opening of the floodgates. However, they had to wait till six minutes from time before Mohamed Nagy Geddo scored the second goal. On 89 minutes, Kevin Prince Boateng took the game beyond the hosts by connecting in Asamoah Gyans cross. Just after the goal, disappointed fans began filing out of the stadium and as they made their way out, they congratulated every Ghanaian on sight. Congratulations to Ghana, you have a good team, Ahmed Mohamed, a student said whilst exchanging hands with a Ghanaian. Others even thronged the Ghanaian stand to pledge their loyalty to the Stars, once it became evident the Pharaohs cannot fly to Brazil. However, language barrier was a border for partially English speaking Egyptians as one fan exclaimed Hard Luck Ghana in his bid to congratulate the team. Moments after referee Doue Nomandiez brought proceedings to an end, there was a mad rush for Ghana souvenir as the ball boys and stewards took turns for memorable pictures with players of the Black Stars. Even journalists were not left out as their Egyptian counterparts congratulated them for a good job done by the Stars. Many Egyptians expect Ghana to improve her quarter final berth in 2014 in South Africa next year.
