I Prefer A Prez Who Conscientiously Fights Corruption To One Who Takes A Pay Cut NPP MP

Many have hailed the proposed 10% pay cut by President John Dramani Mahama and his appointees from next year, but a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes it amounts to nothing if the President does not diligently fight corruption. Addressing the issue moments after the Finance Minister, Seth Terkper ended the presentation of the 2014 Budget Statement and Financial Policy of Government in Parliament, Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, in the Eastern Region, Hon. Samuel Ayeh-Paye called on President Mahama to do more to tackle corruption, which is becoming synonymous with his Administration. According to the Law Maker, he would rather vote for a President who would formulate policies and programs to make corruption unattractive than one that would only take a pay cut. You can cut your salary by 100% it does not mean anything. I would rather vote for a President who would be paid GHc 50,000 but would check corruption and not a President who would cut his salary by 10% but presides over corruption, Hon. Ayeh-Paye asserted. He made this submission in the studios of NEAT FM, during discussions on the 2014 budget statement which was read to Ghanaians and presented in the august House of Parliament on Tuesday. Single Spine Salary Structure is imposing severe strain on the economy but government, employers and organized labour are continuing negotiations on how to solve it....We believe we are of one mind and therefore we are determined that the public sector wages will not put a strain on budgetto demonstrate leadership, the president, his Vice, appointees and ministers of State have decided to take a voluntary 10% pay cut in 2014...the amount to be deducted will be channeled into maternal health, Hon Seth Terkper, the Minister of Finance said. But the Ayensuano MP, who seemed not tickled by the move, urged the President Mahama to fight corruption in his administration, whether it is a perception or a reality.
