NPP stalwart, Kwabena Sarpong has cautioned government not to cause divisions in the nation. Speaking in relation to the ostentatiously display of "Mahama T-shirts" by some supporters in the World Cup qualifiers between Ghana and Egypt on Tuesday, Kwabena Sarpong slammed President John Mahama for embracing hero worshippers in his government. A group of Ghanaian supporters were spotted in T-shirts blatantly displaying the face of President Mahama during the match, which saw Ghana book their place at next year�s World Cup at the expense of Egypt. The T-shirts which, according to sources, were distributed by Brogya Gyamfi, the Special Assistant to the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Joseph Yammin has since courted controversy. Kwabena Sarpong, on Oman FM, warned the ruling party not to disintegrate the sporting fabric of the country by introducing politics into national soccer. �No civilized nation will do that�This kind of hero worshipping; (H.E) John (Mahama), please don�t allow this," he said. Kwabena Sarpong also lashed out at authorities of the Ghana Football Association for tending to sap the hard work of the National team's coach, Kwesi Appiah. Credible information from the GFA indicated that German coach Klaus Toppmoller was earmarked as a new technical director of the senior national team, Black Stars. Toppmoller was contacted by third parties representing the Association to take technical decisions regarding the team, which would leave Kwesi Appiah as Deputy Coach for the team. Though the controversy surrounding this leak seemed to have dwindled due to the Stars� victory over their Egyptian counterparts, to book their place in the Brazil 2014 World Cup; the NPP guru believes it is utter 'baloney' for the GFA officials to even consider such a move. According to him, should another coach, in the name of a technical expert, be brought in to assist Kwesi Appiah; it surely is a betrayal of trust in him. He therefore warned the GFA not to disrespect the conscience of Ghanaians. "�the GFA should give us a little bit of respect and confidence. Let�s respect ourselves a bit. Let us respect ourselves that we are human beings and capable of doing something�Why is it that Kwesi Appiah will go through this difficult time and has been successful, then you want to bring in a foreigner to assist him before we go for the World Cup? What nonsense is that?� he said questioning the logic in employing the services of a foreigner to assist Kwesi Appiah.
