Wearing Mahama Emblazoned TShirts Is Propaganda Gimmick Reminiscent Of Mobutu, Idi Amin Era

There have been several treacherous leaders the world over, who ruled their people with iron hands. History has that, these rulers committed various degrees of atrocities against their people and Africa has its fair share. During the reign of these leaders, Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu wa Za Banga of Republic of the Congo (Lopoldville) now Zaire, Idi Amin Dada of Uganda, Jean Bedel Bokassa of the Central African Republic; just to name a few, state functions and activities of the country were choreographed, in order to meet the expectations and taste of these rulers. However, Nana Akomea, a former Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has likened the donning of President John Dramani T-shirts by some supporters of the Black Stars in the stands, in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday, during the second leg World Cup Qualifier, to the propaganda gimmicks largely witnessed in the era of Mobutu and Bokasa. Nana Akomea said, in spite of the that the Black Stars have proven to be the only unifying force of the country, some elements want to introduce partisan politics in the supporters union of the Senior National Football Team. He questioned the principle of those who criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for what many believe to be controversial comments he made on the economy during a Memorial Lecture to mark the first Anniversary of the death of the former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama. He made these remarks during a panel discussion on Metro TVs, Good Morning Ghana show. A co-panelist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., Managinig Editor of the Insight newspaper, who shared Nana Akomeas views, however thought the comparison of the situation to the era of some of Africas despicable tyrants, who brought nothing but pain and suffering to their people, was an exaggeration.
