IDEA Closes Office In Ghana

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), an inter-governmental organization comprising 27 member states, has announced the closure of its Ghana Office based in Accra and the temporary termination of its operations in West Africa. Ambassador Mustaq Moorad, IDEA Africa Regional Director, who was addressing members of the press on Friday, lamented about the organizations inability to operate continuously in the country due to financial constraints. Mr Moorad said the rationalization exercise would include the relocation of the Africa Regional Office of the organization currently in Pretoria, South Africa to Addis Ababa. Negotiations have begun with the Ethiopian Government for the African Regional Office of IDEA to be relocated in Addis Ababa, he hinted. We are still committed to our works in the West African region. IDEA recently concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ECOWAS Commission to work in partnership in the future should our conditions improve, Mr Moorad said.
