The Progressive People�s Party (PPP), has staged another unsuccessful demonstration in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, registering their anger for what they describe as the �massive corruption� in the country.
This is the second in the series of anti corruption demonstrations staged by the party, without any impact.
Meanwhile, The Herald, has landed an investigative report into alleged irregularities at the State Enterprises Commission (SEC), conducted by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) as far back as June 1996.
It mentioned among other things tax evasion, dual citizenship status against Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, the founder, owner, financier and flagbearer of the PPP, when he worked there under the Rawlings regime.
The demonstration, according to the PPP is part of a nationwide protest to highlight what they describe as high corruption and bad economic governance by the ruling NDC.
In October, they staged a similar demonstration in Accra, which saw low patronage from the public; Policemen deployed to provide protection that day, were more than the number of people who turned up.
However, it was a different story in Kumasi on Saturday as hundreds of supporters turned up for the demonstration.
The protest march began from the Prempeh Assembly Hall area, through certain principal streets of Kumasi and ended up at the PPP court yard.
The demonstrators apart from the high corruption also said they were protesting against bad economic governance in Ghana.
Convenor for the PPP-led anti corruption march, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, demanded among others, the separation of the Attorney General from the Ministry of Justice, as well as, an independent legislature to enable the state to effectively fight corruption.
The party is also calling for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE) as opposed to the current practise, where they are appointed by the president.
