Asantehene Urges Sacrifice Towards Education

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has urged parents to accept to make the necessary sacrifices towards the education of their children. He said they should support them to pursue education to become useful to themselves, family, community and the nation, adding that education was critical to the progress of the individual and society. Otumfuo Osei Tutu said this in an address read for him at the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Agona SDA Senior High School (SHS) in the Sekyere South District. Quality education, a shared responsibility of the church, government and other stakeholders was the theme. The Asantehene reminded parents to collaborate with teachers to instill moral discipline in children to enable them to succeed in life. He said students should avoid cheating in examinations and other bad social conduct including drug abuse and sexual promiscuity which could ruin their future. Mr. Samuel Yaw Adusei, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, said the government was determined to provide the schools with infrastructure and facilities to enhance teaching and learning. Mr. Kofi Sarfo Kantanka, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, rallied the stakeholders to work together to create the right conditions in schools for effective academic work. He said parents, teachers, the church, the community and students should accept to play their expected roles well. Mr. Moses Akwasi Addai, the Headmaster, said the academic performance of the school had been impressive and this had been due to the high level of discipline. He complained about the poor nature of roads running through the school and said that needed to be tackled by the government. Besides, the SHS urgently required additional classrooms and dormitories to ease congestion and appealed for a school bus to address the serious transportation challenge it was faced with.
