African Leaders Must Learn From Mandela Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged African leaders to learn from the example of Nelson Mandela and strive to groom the next generation of African leaders. We must prepare the next generation of leaders to take over from us. I dont think that any one person has all the answers to the challenges that our individual countries face, he said. In an interview with Christian Amanpour on CNN on Monday, President Mahama stated that one of the lessons African leaders can learn from late President Mandela, was his decision to leave office after one term despite calls from South Africans to continue with the leadership of the country. He said this should teach the current group of leaders on the continent to step aside when their work is done and allow others come in and offer their support. After he came out of prison, he got elected as the President of South Africa and he did one term in office. Although, there was a lot of pressure from the Chiefs and the people in South Africa for him to continue and do a second term, he declined. What it teaches us is that, we come, we play our part and we live it to the next generation, he said. President Mahama is expected to join about ninety world leaders including President Obama in Johannesburg today for the Nelson Mandela memorial service.
