Altogether more perplexing is the fact that West Ham�s struggling coach Sam Allardyce is the 13th best-paid manager in the world, his �2.95m putting him above Roberto Mancini (Galatasaray, �2.92m), Rafa Benitez (Napoli, �2.92) and level with England manager Roy Hodgson.
The astonishing figures, published by Sporting Intelligence, show that of the top 30 best-paid coaches in the world, eight work in England, five in Italy, four in Spain, three in Germany and two in Russia.
