Ashanti NPP Chiefs For Wontumi

The prayers of Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi, of becoming the next Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) seem to have been answered. This is because scores of NPP constituency chairmen in the region, who are considered by party faithful and political analysts as very powerful in the party, have endorsed his bid. These NPP constituency chairmen declared their unflinching support for Wontumis candidature when he met the delegates of nine NPP constituencies in the Kumasi Metropolis. Wontumi who had intensified his campaign for the NPP chairmanship position in recent times was to explain his vision and plans to transform the NPP to the delegates of the nine constituencies at the event. He was overwhelmed when scores of NPP constituency chairmen in the region, who are considered as the movers-and-shakers of the party, declared their support for him. Among the NPP constituency chairmen who declared their support for Wontumi were Akwasi Nti, Fomena; Asare Bediako, Asokwa; Chairman Donkoh, Tafo; Chairman Dapaah, Ahafo Ano South East among others. According to them, they had carefully listened to Wontumis vision and plans for the NPP and were convinced that he was the right person to lead the NPP to victory in 2016 in the region. They said again that Wontumi, besides his deep love for the NPP, also respects all manner of people irrespective of their educational or financial status so they believed he would be a listening chairman. Accord The NPP chairmen, in unison, therefore charged the delegates to vote massively for Wontumi to enable him to implement his effective strategies to help the NPP amass more votes in the area in 2016. Explaining why they openly declared support for Wontumi, Akwasi Nti, Fomena Constituency chairman, said the NPP was robbed of a deserved victory in the 2012 presidential polls due to poor leadership. He said the party was not active and strong at the polling station level and that paved way for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rig the polls and deny Nana Akufo-Addo the presidential throne. Akwasi Nti bemoaned that the NPP leadership was too gentle; a demeanour that allowed the NDC to have a fields day to rig the polls in the Ashanti Region in 2012. He stressed that with an energetic, hard working and young man like Wontumi as chairman the NPP in the Ashanti Region, all the dirty tricks of the NDC would be exposed and defeated in 2012. Akwasi Nti observed that instead of the NPP leadership to face the NDC at the polling stations when the rigging was taking place in 2012, they rather allowed the NDC to steal votes with an excuse that they would challenge the results in court. The Fomena NPP Chairman said the NPP was tired of proceeding to court to contest electoral results, stating that with Wontumi as chairman, the NPP would win the polls at the polling station level. Andy Owusu of Free Education Now Prayer Group, who is now the campaign manager of Wontumi, organized the event which also saw virtually all the aspirants for the various regional NPP positions, also declaring support for Wontumi. In his succinct remarks, Wontumi, who seemed elated about the huge support he had received, thanked the NPP faithful, promising to lift the party up when he is eventually elected chairman. He said he would listen to advice from all party faithful, work to make the NPP attractive and enticing to the youth and members of the opposing political parties and also make the NPP strong to win more votes in the region in the 2016 general elections.
