Nana Abena Boatemaa, President of Brong Ahafo Queen Mothers' Association and Queen Mother of Odumase Number One Traditional Area has reiterated the need to assist the needy and less privileged in society.
Nana Boatemaa who is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of NAB OPHAWID Care International, a non-governmental organization (NGO) made the call at an end-of-year get-together organized for over 300 orphans and widows at Odumase in the Sunyani West District.
She said the NGO was established about four years ago to assist in alleviating the plight of the vulnerable and less privileged, especially orphans and widows in society; and that it had provided food and basic amenities to such groups from various communities within the district.
According to her, the NGO had also registered some orphans and widows with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and provided stationery, school uniforms and foot wear to orphans to enable them to further their education.
Nana Boatemaa appealed to corporate institutions, individuals and philanthropists to assist her to support these vulnerable groups in society.
Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, advised management of the NGO to collaborate and network with other stakeholders to collectively fight the cause of the less privileged.
He noted that government was prepared to partner private organizations to develop the country under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) concept.
Mr Adjei added that orphans should be encouraged and supported to access education to help them to secure better future, pointing out that hard work and determination were the keys to success.
Mr Baffuor Awuah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West pledged to support the establishment of an educational fund for the orphans.
