The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has presented a medical sponsorship package to Richard Kusi Yeboah, a 17- year- old student, who has kidney infection and needs a transplant. Kusi Yeboah needed to undergo hemodialysis treatment for one year to prepare him for the kidney transplant. The estimated amount for hemodialysis twice a week is quoted at $100.00 and the NLA is supporting his treatment through the Renal Dialysis Unit of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital with GHC 20,000.00. The NLA has also supported a 15- year-old Jemima Ekwan, who has been diagnosed with posterior spinal fusion with a cheque of GHC 5,000.00 to the TV3 Social Support Fund to support her treatment. Brigadier General Martin Ahiaglo, Director- General of NLA, said the medical sponsorship package formed part of its corporate social responsibility which was based on principles such as transparency, equal treatment, respect for the rule of law, respect for human rights and protection of vulnerable groups. He said through its corporate social responsibility agenda for the Health Sector, the NLA in 2013 distributed six Blood Bank Refrigerators to various hospitals in the country including two sets of Electric Power Drills to the Korle Bu Accident Centre, and the current renovation works at the Cape Coast Municipal Hospital He said the core objective of the NLA was to raise revenue for the government for development Brigadier Ahiaglo, however, bemoaned the activities of illegal lotto operators popularly called Banker to Banker which is having a negative effect on the revenue of the NLA.
