Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed, has called for a market expansion for local rice farmers in the country to accelerate the growth of the local rice industry. �From all indications, the demand for the locally produced rice is so high that it is not enough to meet the demand. So what we need to do is to develop their market and make sure that whiles the people are demanding it, if it is available, obviously and directly, it will reduce the demand for imported rice,� he stated. Mr Muntaka who commended the government on the relaxation of the ban on rice importation said this will promote relationships between local rice farmers and rice importers. Speaking to Citi News Mr. Muntaka Mohammed in his opinion stated that the availability of local rice on the market to meet the needs of customers will encourage importers of foreign rice to liaise with local rice farmers to boost their businesses.
