Rabiu Not Daunted By Competition For World Cup Place

Black Stars midfielder Rabiu Mohammed says he is not daunted by fighting for his place in Kwesi Appiah's final 23 for the World Cup in Brazil. The next four months will be crucial for any player eager to book a flight to Brazil not as a spectator but as a squad member of the national team. But for the 24-year-old who plays for FC Kuban Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League club, everyone will have something to prove in the midst of stiff competition from a pool of talents. "I am not worried about the months leading up to the World Cup," Rabiu told www.ghanafa.org on Friday on the sidelines of a special dinner organised by the Ghana Football Association in Accra. "I just have to play well for my Club and see how things go from there." Rabiu, who has one World Cup winners medal - at the U-20 level - amongst his collection says he is remaining calm about the task ahead after playing in four qualifying matches for the Black Stars on their way to reaching the finals. "Once a team qualifies[for the World Cup], the expectation builds up. And that is normal. But for me, it's nothing. I don't feel anything now. "I have my ambitions and I just have to keep going and trying to do well." Ghana, who would be making their third-straight appearance at the World Cup are paired in a tough group with former champions Germany. The groups also includes USA and Portugal.
