Barima Sidney, Ghana�s most controversial hiplife artiste, yesterday called on local television stations in the country to come out and explain why they have refused to air his latest music video titled �Donkomi� in which he used the image of President John Mahama. The television stations last year refused to air Sidney�s latest music video directed by Mclord Ice of Eagle Syte Production without any explanation when Sidney personally submitted copies of the video to them at their various offices. Sidney, who has been consistent in the hiplife music industry for the past decade, said he found it difficult to understand the motive behind the television stations� refusal to promote his music video. �I don�t understand why they don�t want to show my latest music video on their networks. They are not being fair to me at all. Well, I will try and convince them to air the video and if they refuse I will advice myself,� Sidney said. He explained that the �Donkomi� song, together with its video, was produced to educate political leaders about the hardship and frustrations the people who voted for them are going through, adding that he used the image of the President in his video just to tell a story and not to defame him. Reports available to 'Beatwaves' also indicated that the very day the video was released, certain big shots in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were not happy with Sidney for using the image of the President in the video without his permission or approval. There were reports in a section of the media that the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI), after watching the video, planned to invite Sidney to answer questions on why he used the image of President John Mahama and the Presidency in his music video without approval. Barima Sidney who saw nothing wrong with his video told 'Beatwaves' that ever since the video was released nobody has called him to complain about it. �I did not insult the President in the video. I only used his motion picture to tell a story,� he explained. Sidney stressed that he was ever ready to honour invitation from anybody and the government to explain the content of his music video. Reports available also revealed that because the television stations were not happy with the content of Sidney�s video, some of them had started editing a number of music videos they have received to remove references in their lyrics which relate to drugs, sex, nudity, violence, among others.
