Youth For Mahama Donates Blood For President's First Anniversary

Members of Youth for Mahama, a political group affiliated to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday, donated 26 units of blood to the Blood Bank of the Koforidua Regional Hospital to commemorate the first anniversary of the presidency of President John Dramani Mahama. The group also donated 30 pieces of cloths to the Maternity Ward of the hospital for donation to all women who deliver at the ward from 5th to 7th January, 2014 as part of activities to mark the anniversary. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the National Chairperson of the group, Ms Shirley Naana Osei Ampem said the group was using the occasion to offer services to the community and would be climaxing their activities with a symposium on Tuesday at the Koforidua Legion Hall in the afternoon. Last Saturday, the group organized a clean-up exercise in the Koforidua township and a health walk through the principal streets of Koforidua on Sunday morning. Commenting on the blood donation, the Acting Medical Director of the Koforidua Regional Hospital, Dr Kwame Anim Boamah commended the group for contributing towards the improvement of the blood stock of the hospital. He called on organizations and individuals to donate more blood to the hospital to help save lives. Early last December, the management of the Koforidua Regional Hospital issued out a Save Our Souls (SOS) message for people to donate blood to help save lives because of the depletion of the blood stock at the blood bank. Students of the Koforidua Polytechnic responded to the SOS appeal by donated 38 units of blood, followed by the New Age Club of Koforidua Zongo, who also donated 20 units of blood on Boxing Day.
