Adenta Shooting: Police Acted In Self Defence

The first working day of 2014 turned bloody when one person was killed during a demolishing exercise at Adenta on Monday. The deceased was allegedly a member of land guards who tried to stop the demolition exercise. Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Police, DSP Freeman Tettey in an interview Tuesday indicated that the police had no other option than to attack because the land guards had already started shooting. According to him, they acted in self defence. They grouped themselves as land guards with machetes and guns and almost slashed one of our officersthe police came under attack; we had no other option because the life of a policeman was actually at stake he stated on Kokrokoo DSP Freeman Tettey added that per their investigations, it has been confirmed that the deceased as well as three other people who were arrested were part of the land guards. We can say on authority that those who attacked us were land guards. What is important was that they attacked the police and we had to respond he reiterated. Meanwhile, he has pointed out that the demolishing exercise will continue on Monday, 13th January 2014.
