The practice of keeping gas cylinders in closed places is dangerous and should be stopped. This is because when there is any leakage, the amount of gas that leaks multiplies 250 times and can cause an explosion from the hissing sound of a switch. Mr Billy Anaglatey, PRO of Ghana Fire Service, made this known to The Finder in an interview on how Ghanaians can be fire safety conscious. According to him, when gas cylinders are kept in an enclosed place and there is any leakage, the leaked gas becomes heavier than air and does not dissipate. He further stressed that if the gas does not dissipate the exposure to any naked spark could again be fatal. Mr Anaglatey appealed to the general public to install their cylinders in opened places and not in the kitchen especially. In his explanation, when this is done it enables air to dissipate the concentration of the gas and reduce its ignition temperature. He also advised that periodic checks are made on the tubes that are connected to the regulator and the cylinder. Mr Anaglatey cautioned the general public to adopt safety measures to ensure that fire outbreaks are minimised this year.
