Support Government To Deliver-Omanhene

The Omanhene of Gomoa Akyempim Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has urged Ghanaians to have change of mind sets from the way they do politics and rally behind the President to improve the living condition in the country. We must think positive about the ability of President Mahama to better the lot of the people and do away with NDC NPP discussion which has dominated the airwaves all the time. The Omanhene said this in an address at the end-of-year meeting of the Standing Committee of the traditional area. He urged Ghanaians to dedicate 2014 to God and pray that the year came with prosperity for Ghana. The Omanhene reminded Ghanaians that nobody would come from anywhere to develop the country for us and urged them to embark on hard work and refrain from partisan politics which was consuming much of our time. He expressed concern about the alarming rate chiefs and family heads had been selling lands at Gomoa to people who claimed that they were estate developers. He said such people bought the land at cheaper prices and resell them to prospective estate developers at high prices. He said these people did not register the land with the Land Commission, for the traditional rulers to benefit from some royalties. Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea advised the youth not to sit down unconcerned for their chiefs to toil with their future. They must resist the sales of land through demonstrations to make the chiefs know that they did not like what they were doing. They must make them know that they were destroying their future as they might not get a place to put up their house in the future or to farm in the future. He predicted a food shortage in the area in the near future as farming lands had been sold and sand winners had also destroyed the land without reclaiming it. The Omanhene said now the worrying development in the area was the influx of Fulani herdsmen into the area with their cattle for grazing. The chief said whiles the cattle had been destroying the crops, the herdsmen and group hunters who were also problems in the area, set bush fires to destroy vegetation and crops. On fighting corruption Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea said it must not be the concern of the President alone. He pointed out that corruption was not a new development in the country; it was now that people had realized that if it was not dealt with in time it would have a negative effect on the countrys economy. The Omanhene appealed to all Ghanaians especially chiefs to get involved in fighting the corruption. He expressed concern about the manner issues were discussed in the country and cautioned Ghanaians to be careful not to create condition for some soldiers to take over the government. Obrifo appealed to parents not to hide behind the hardship in the country to shirk responsibility of their childrens education. Pay attention to children education to secure a better future for them and the parent themselves. He appealed to the government to tar road from Ankamu to Afranse and also construct the fishing harbour at Manford as an appreciation for the massive votes the NDC received from Gomoa East, Gomoa Central and Gomoa West in the 2012 elections.
