Fishermen at Ekon, a suburb of Cape Coast, in the Central Region, have caught a live deer in deep sea, during their fishing expedition on Tuesday. Many people, upon hearing the news, rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse of the animal.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle, a fisherman, Kofi Asemasa, whose net caught the animal said he went with his colleagues to inspect their nets, but on their way back home they saw the deer swimming in the sea.
He then swam in the direction of the deer, threw his net around it, held the horn and attempted to pull it into his canoe, but he alone could not do it, so waited for some of his colleagues to come around to support him.
He stated that even though people are attributing it to superstition and spiritual forces, he would sell the deer for either GH�500 or GH�1000 to anyone who cares to buy it.
The Law Enforcement Officer at the Kakum National Park, Mr. Annan Riverson, who came to the scene advised that the animal should neither be killed nor sold to anyone, but rather sent to the wildlife division to assess its condition.
He encouraged them to preserve such animals when they are found and sent to the appropriate quarters, rather than torturing and killing them.
