Police Warns Of Indiscriminate Use Of DV Number Plate

The Ghana Police Service is warning unathorised road users on the abuse of the Trade Number Plates [DV and DP number plate]. According to the police administration, it is an offence for motorists to use the trade license plate for �ordinary routine purposes.� In a statement issued by the Director-General/Public Affairs Directorate of the Police Service, DCOP Rev. David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, it indicated that motorists commit an offence by using the trade license for funerals, weddings, church, mosques, office and business duties, carrying of children to school, travelling on a journey not related to the business of testing or transporting to the dealers or fleet owners place of business. �Regulation 23 (8) of LI 2180 states among others that �a trade license does not authorize the motor vehicle for which the license has been issued to be used for carrying passengers, goods for hire or reward, or passengers who are not engaged in testing the motor vehicle with the view of purchasing the motor vehicle,� the statement added. The police administration is thereby appealing to the public to adhere to the road traffic regulations adding that defaulters will be dealt with according to law.
