Christian Council Mourns Dumor And Prof Addy

The Christian Council has conveyed its heartfelt and deepest condolences to the families of Mr. Komla Dumor a broadcaster of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and Professor Ewurama Addy an educationist. The Council recalled the contributions of Prof. Addy to its work, especially during the 2012 General Elections Peace Campaign Project, which was undertaken by the Council. A statement issued and signed by Rev. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the Council and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said Prof Addy volunteered to be the co-chair of the Eminent Persons Group. The Eminent Persons Group was formed by the Council to interface with political parties and other key stakeholders to facilitate peace. �This, she did with passion and excellence. She played this key role effectively together with other eminent persons such as Most. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, Pastor Dr. Mensa Otabil and Ambassador K. B Asante, in fostering national cohesion and peace before, during and after the general elections.� The statement said Prof. Addy became an inspiration to many young women who wanted to study Mathematics and Science, after she becoming the first woman professor in Science at the University of Ghana, Legon, and subsequently the Quiz Mistress for the famous National Science and Mathematics Quiz for Senior High Schools. It said �the Council also mourns the sudden departure of Komla Dumor and described him as a trail blazer in broadcasting in Ghana, who projected Africa at the international level through his outstanding performance at BBC. It said Mr Dumor�s passion for excellence, objectivity and innovation is one that is worth celebrating and emulating by journalists. �He was a symbol of inspiration and hope to many young people in Africa. �The death of Komla and Prof. Addy is indeed a big blow to us as Ghanaians, and Africa as a whole. At this time of bereavement, we pray that God strengthens the families of Komla and Prof. Addy, and ask the grace of God to see them through,� the statement concluded.
