President Mahama, on last Thursday, attracted a thundering applause from guests at the commissioning of the first phase of the rehabilitation works at the Tamale Teaching Hospital when he announced his promise of constructing an ultra modern mortuary for the people in the region.
Though Tamale is a Muslim-dominated region where mortuary services are hardly patronized in view of the swift burial of deceased relations in accordance with Islamic custom, the President in his litany of promises indicated his readiness to give the region a befitting mortuary.
He also promised to construct a new five-storey block with medical and surgical wards, faculty offices, tutorial and conference rooms, a five-storey block with operation theatres, maternity wards and other ancillary facilities and a three-storey block to house accidents and emergencies with reception area as well as beds.
The President Mahama added that there would also be a new mortuary with pathology and laboratory in the second phase of the project.
The Government had also announced plans to build 1600 CHPS compounds in Ghana before 2016 in addition to the 700 that were built between 2009 and 2012.
President Mahama, however, said that major roads linking Tamale to the district capitals would be tarred, while others would be constructed including the Tamale/Kumbungu road, Tamale/Salaga road, Walewale/ Nalerigu/Bunkpurugu road, Nyankpala/Tolon.
He said the Fufulso/Damongo/Sawla road was going on commendably and that the Government would work tirelessly to bring development to the doorsteps of the people to justify the confidence reposed in the Government.
