Mr John Peter Amewu, an Energy Consultant, was on Saturday elected Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Regional Delegates Conference in Ho.
He polled 224 votes to beat Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, a Legal Practitioner, and onetime Volta Regional Minister, who had 185 votes.
The other candidate for the chairmanship was Mr Julius Ametepe, a retired Civil Servant.
Dr Archibald Letsa, an Entrepreneur, got the position of First Vice-Chairman while Madam Esther Happy Edjeani, an Educationist, won the Second Vice-Chairmanship position.
Joseph Homenya, an Entrepreneur, was voted the Secretary while Mr Makafui Woanya won the position of Organizer.
The position of Women�s Organizer went to Madam Akusika Nkansah, Treasurer, Joseph Denteh and Youth Organizer, Maxwell Lugudor.
The Conference, scheduled to begin at 0900 hours, started at 1223 hours, held back by bickering over the illegibility of delegates from the Ho-Central Constituency to vote.
A letter, purported to have been issued by a court restraining the Ho-Central Constituency Executives from voting and served on Regional Election Committee earlier in the morning, was at the centre of the confusion.
Mr Kenwuud Nuworsu, Outgoing Regional Chairman, who was insisting the Ho-Central Constituency delegates could not vote, superintended the first part of the conference before handing over to the Electoral Commission team led by Ms Laurentia Kpatakpa, Regional Director.
Abdulai Fuhlanba, NPP Deputy General-Secretary, said his understanding was that only the Keta Constituency, which had not elected executives due to a court case, was to be excluded from voting but not the Ho-Central Constituency.
He said he was not a lawyer and so could not tell if that written communication to the conference was an injunction.
Ho-Central Constituency delegates, somehow, were called to vote, while the police performed their role by protecting the ballot boxes.
Mr Amewu, in a short address, said; �The election should end factionalism in the Volta Region.�
