EC refutes fraud allegation in Takoradi

Mr Steven Opoku-Mensah, Western Regional Electoral Director, on Saturday debunked allegations that the Commission, which conducted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Executive Election, gave double ballot papers to prospective voters. He said 10 ballots papers were given to each voter for the 10 positions being contested for by 32 candidates. Mr Opoku-Mensah directed that the transparent ballot boxes be opened and showed to the delegates before voting started around 1330 hours. The elections ended smoothly but without hiccups as some defeated candidates asked for recount of the ballots, however, after the recount was done the figures corresponded with the earlier figures announced by the Electoral Commission. After the declaration of result, the immediate past Regional Chairman, Nana Owusu-Ankomah, commended the delegates for making a choice through voting and entreated them to remain united and focus to recapture power in 2016. He said the voice of the delegates must be respected and pledged to take initiatives that would help the cause of the party. The newly elected Regional Chairman, Kendicks Dickson Attah-Nketsia, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and asked for support from the rank and file to ensure electoral victory in the 2016 general election.
