The performance of every government is determined by how well the economy is managed. The tourism industry is considered world-wide as one sector that pumps a lot of money into an economy. It is therefore the duty of state officials sustain and improve upon our economy by fishing out illegal businessmen who cripple the nation through their activities. It is on this note that the president of the car rental association of Ghana (CRAG) has called on government to recognize the contribution of the rental sector to tourism and halt the operations of illegal businessmen making undeserved profits through the business. Available statistics shows that the tourism industry in Ghana contributes about GHC 3.4 billion to the nations GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Speaking at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel, the president of CRAG has pointed out to government to deal harshly with owners of private vehicles who were using DVLA trial plates to conduct rental business outside the regulatory radar of the Ghana Tourism Authority. He fingered the activity as a galamsey operation which needed to be curbed.
