Heads and elders of Nii Owoo family of the Greater Accra Region yesterday staged a massive protest against what they described as the �unlawful and illegal� demolition exercise carried out by Comet Real Estates on a 300-acre land situated at Aboasa, a fast developing community in the Ga East Municipality in Accra.
The angry family members numbering over four hundred, held placards with inscriptions some of which read: �Police are helping Comet Properties to steal our titled land, No. GA 30829, and �we do not want blood to be shed on our land before government comes to solve the problem.�
Others read: �President John Dramani Mahama must call the IGP and Rose Bio Atinga to order.�
According to the irate family members, the IGP and Rose Bio Atinga are supporting the chairman of Comet Real Estate Groups, Mr. Kwaku Keremanteng, to forcibly take their lands from them.
The demonstrators expressed grave concern over the manner in which Mr. Kyeremanteng, encroached and took over their landed properties.
The protesters chased out all workers who were earlier warned by the family not to continue developing the land from the site, with many of them pulling down already erected pillars, pegs and destroying building blocks on site.
According to them, Comet Real Estates� �illegal� activity is becoming too much and that the time has come for the Owoo family to stand up for their rights.
They also alleged that Comet Real Estates is using the police to guard the land.
Addressing a news conference after the protest at the site, a member of the Nii Owoo family, Nii Kwate Owoo, indicated that although Comet Real Estates has some parcels of land in the area, the said 300-acre land which is part of Greater Accra Region and currently being developed by Comet Real Estates is not part of their properties.
Nii Owoo showed documents of Land Title Registration from the Lands Title Registry No GA 38029-Vol. 06-Folio 895 and documents covering the Administration Boundary between Greater Accra and Eastern Region vis-�-vis Nii Owoo family land at Aboasa (Survey Plan No. X 3145) to support their claims, indicating that indeed the land belonged to the family.
According to the Land Title Certificate, which Mr. Owoo presented to the media, the Nii Owoo family of Accra is registered as proprietor of an estate of freehold subject to the reservation, restrictions, encumbrances, liens and interest of piece of land in the extent of 54.78 hectares more or less situated at North Kwabenya (Aboasa) in the Greater Accra Region.
However, in an interview with this paper, the chairman of Comet Real Groups, Mr. Kyeremanteng said the land in question is part of his property which he acquired from the people of Brekuso in the Eastern Region.
He explained that he purchased some 25-acres of land from the Nii Owoo family for which an agreement was reached on the terms of payment which he fulfilled to the latter.
Mr. Kyeremanteng said per the agreement he had with the Nii Owoo family and that of the Asona family of Berekuso, the land in contention belongs to him and sees no reason why the Owo
