Traders Urge Government To Act Swiftly Against Depreciating Cedi

Panelists on Radio Ghana�s current affairs programme, �FOCUS�, on Wednesday agreed that there is an urgent need for government to act swiftly to strengthen the cedi. The President of the Association of Ghana Industries, Seth Twum-Akwaboah noted that there is too much speculation about the issue, making the dollar to gain grounds. He also outlined some long and short term strategies that can be adopted to help strengthen the cedi. The President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA, George Kwaku Ofori expressed worry about the dollarisation of the economy and the way foreigners have taken over every aspect of the economy. Mr Ofori called on law enforcement agencies to step-up efforts in enforcing the laws, so as to strengthen the cedi. He also asked Ghanaians to purchase made in Ghana goods to reduce importation.
