Players In Energy Sector Should Be Integrated Into A Single Unit -Tarzan

Presidential candidate of the defunct United Ghana Movement (UGM) in 2000, Dr. Wereko Brobbey has suggested that all the players in the energy production, transmission and distribution sector be integrated into a single unit to ensure efficiency. According the former boss of the Volta River Authority (VRA), some of Ghanas problems with energy stems from the fact that the process of generation till is ends up with the consumer has been fragmented with various heads, who seem to be going at different directions. In this power sector we are always installing chiefs. If you go to South Africa, the power peak load and capacity is about 50,000 but ours is not up to 2,000. But we have Chiefs at GRIDCo, we have Chiefs at VRA, we have Chiefs at Bui and every one of them has subordinates and a board. They are wasting money in this country, we are not serious, he fumed. Speaking on NEAT 100.9 FM, while discussing a communiqu by the Ghana Grid Company, which is tasked to transmitting power, it points to the fact that the forecast demand is 1980 Mw at peak but due to a shortfall in power production, there will be an occasional curtailment of power across the country. Dr. Wereko Brobbey who was not amused by the statement, argued that it is an indication that intermittent power outage that has bedeviled the nation for some time now has not been eradicated. He further urged that politicians must excuse themselves from making comments and promises on the delivery of power whiles people who are paid with the taxes hide in their shadows. In his view, one of the basic things that can help solve the nations seemingly unending power crisis is to bring all the stakeholders under one umbrella for effective supervision and control. too many Chiefs create blackout, Dr. Brobbey opined.
