Lt. Col. Amengor, new commander of 66 Artillery

Lieutenant Colonel Selorm Kwasi Amengor on Friday assumed command of the 66 Artillery Regiment at the Volta Barracks, Ho. He took over from Colonel Abase Seidu, at a handing-over ceremony at the Barracks. Col. Abase Commanding Officer (CO) of the Regiment for four years and eight months moves to General Headquarters, as Director, Conflict Information Research. He is credited with the formation of �Baby Canons Band�, a Regiment brass band and a sachet water manufacturing plant for the Regiment. Col. Abase commended the soldiers and the civilian public for supporting him during his tenure. He saluted past Commanding Officers of the Regiment for their contributions towards setting high standards for the Officers and men of the Regiment. Col. Abase said the Regiment would continue to work closely with the civilian public to make up for some misunderstandings in recent times. He said the Military would continue to subject itself to democratic principles of the country and urged soldiers of the Regiment to remain loyal and professional at all times. Col. Abase said he was leaving with �mixed feelings and pains.� He described Lt. Col Amengor as a �Military Ranger, good, calm and experienced� who understood, �only hard work,� and asked the soldiers to support him. Lt. Col. Amengor, the 15th Commanding Officer of the Regiment was commissioned at the Ghana Military Academy into the Artillery Corps in 1995. He completed all mandatory professional military courses commensurate with his rank including Young Officers� and Combat Team Commanders� Courses from the Army Combat Training School, among others. In terms of peacekeeping experience, Lt. Col. Amengor served in various appointments including Platoon Commander-ECOMOG GHABATT 11 in Liberia and UNIFIL GHANBATTs 47 and 53 in Lebanon among others. His hobbies include jogging and reading novels and periodicals.
