Bloody Clash! Over Boundary Dispute In Kwabenya-Aboasa

There was a bloody clash yesterday at Aboasa, a fast growing community in the Ga East Municipality in Accra, when contractors working for Comet Real Estates engaged heads and members of the Nii Owoo family of Accra, over a 300-acre land situated between Adjen Kotei in the Greater Accra Region and Brekusu in the Eastern Region. The incident resulted in severe injuries to five members of Nii Owoo family who were rushed to a nearby clinic. The ugly incident came as a result of a dispute over a parcel of land which is still under development by Comet Estates, despite several warnings from Nii Owoo family to Comet Estates and their contractors to discontinue working on the said land. The impasse, which started barely a month ago, saw heads and elders of the Nii Owoo family visit the area on several occasions to warn contractors to stop working on the land since according to them, the land in question does not belong to Comet Real Estates. On Tuesday, February 11, 2014 heads and elders together with some members of the Nii Owoo family A member of Nii Owo family who sustained head injury during the clash OKvisited the area to inspect their property and the land demarcation that established that the said land rightfully belongs to them. The heads and elders of the Nii Owoo family numbering about 1,500 were first prevented from entering the area as some workers from Comet Real Estates together with contracted land guards blocked the road leading to the said parcel of land. This development however generated tension. But members of the Nii Owoo family managed to visit the land. But upon reaching the land, the workers who were severally warned to discontinue working were busily seen constructing housing units on the disputed land. The situation angered members of the Nii Owoo family who decided to seize the workers� tools and pull down some of the erected buildings and walls. The two factions had serious confrontation, which situation resulted in the throwing of clubs and other offensive weapons. However, the ensued tension became more tensed when the workers who were sacked from the land laid ambush for members of the Nii Owoo family right in front of the Comet township Police Post, blocking the road with stones and wielding dangerous weapons, including machetes, hammer, sticks, stones and other dangerous working tools. The bus carrying the Nii Owoo family members was parked on the side of the road making it difficult for them to pass due to the road blocks by Comet workers. Upon getting down, they were approached by Comet workers led by their leader popularly known as �Wallas.� The workers of Comet threw stones, clubs and other offensive materials at the Owoo�s family members� a situation that resulted in a serious clash with some people from both sides sustaining severe injuries.
