A cross-section of Ghanaians said on Friday that they were aware of the National Chocolate Day but expressed worry that locally manufactured chocolate was not easy to come by. Speaking in interviews with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the Tema Station in Accra, majority of them expressed their delight in the National Chocolate Day being celebrated. Mr Kofi Antwi, a storekeeper, said he was fully aware of the National Chocolate Day being celebrated together with the Saint Valentine Day and that he was celebrating it by sharing chocolate with his loved ones. Mr Yaw Amponsah, a petty trader, said he was using both the Valentine Card and the chocolate to celebrate the Day with his loved ones. Ms Doris Abugyei, a storekeeper said she was aware of the Day and that she had already started receiving chocolates from her beloved ones and would do same for others. Mr Abdula Rashid Iddrisu, a staff of Resurgence Ghana Limited, said he was aware of the Day but his religious belief did not permit him to observe it. Mr Solomon Adjetey, a driver's mate, said National Chocolate Day was a nice idea to promote the consumption of locally manufactured cocoa products but was quick to add that the local chocolates were not easy to find on the market. He said he was enjoying the Day with his love ones enjoying chocolates. Mr Richard Doku, a staff of Living Spring Daily Susu Agency, said the Day was very significant to him as a young man who is in love. He told GNA that he intended celebrating it with his loved ones using chocolates. It would be recalled that in 2007, the Ghana Tourism Authority under the auspices of the then Ministry of Tourism declared Saint Valentine�s Day, February 14 as a National Chocolate Day as part of efforts aimed at promoting the consumption of Made-in- Ghana chocolate and other cocoa products.
