Two Arrested For Vehicle Theft

Two people have been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a vehicle at Weija, a suburb of Accra. Adu Nyarko, 28, who posed as a military officer and Roger Brown, also 28, were said to have approached an operator of a car hire service and hired one vehicle which they later attempted to sell. Nyarko is reported to have used his late brother Richard Nyarkos name and accoutrement to commit the crime. The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Christian Tetteh Yohonu, at a press conference yesterday said on January 17, Nyarko dressed in military uniform, approached Brown to accompany him to rent a car for outdooring. They went to Lewis Friar the complainant at Weija and hired a 4x4 Fore-Runner with registration number GR 1769-09 for four days but failed to return it. The tracking system in the car showed Nyarko offering the car for sale at Akim Tafo in the Eastern Region. Friar traced him to Tafo but on hearing that he bolted with the vehicle to Tatale in the Northern Region. He again attempted to sell it but did not succeed because there were no documents covering it. Nyarko later sent the vehicle to Kumasi and sold it for GHC 5000 to a man who believed he was a military man. On February 7, he went back to Tatale and was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted the crime and disclosed the vehicle was in Kumasi. It has since been retrieved.
