MUSIGA Goofs Over Ghana Music Week

It appears the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has, once again, failed to educate the public and sponsors on what the acronym GMW really stands for in the unions upcoming music festival. Despite several attempts by News One to get the President of MUSIGA, Bice Obour Kuffour and his team to explain how different their GMW was different from Mad Time Entertainments Ghana Music Week, the union maintains that GMW means GMW. Legally, it is acceptable for two companies with different aims, focuses or contents to bear the same acronym but where both have common focus, aim, and content, like MUSIGA and Mad Time Entertainments GMW, one can press charges in a competent court of law. Interestingly, artiste manager Fennec Okyere and rapper Kwaw Kese have publicly declared that they have incorporated the name, Ghana Music Week, as their company and have provided all relevant documentation to back their claims. Fennec on Tuesday provided NEWS-ONE with Certificate of Commencement of Business and a Certificate of Incorporation for their company, Ghana Music Week. has therefore threatened to press charges against MUSIGA and any other corporate body involved with the said event if they go ahead to use the acronym GMW, without consulting or negotiating with him. However, without any explanation, MUSIGA boss Obour insisted that the event which we launched is GMW Festival and not Ghana Music Week. When the paper asked, again, what GMW meant, he could not say but explained that the union decided to use GMW to avoid legal tussle. When contacted, Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa, Communications Director of GMW Festival, he could also not say exactly what the acronym GMW stood for.
