Ex-Prez Kufuor Observes Sisterís One Week

A large number of people, including politicians, traditional rulers and clergymen, thronged the family house of former President J.A. Kufuor in Ashanti New Town in Kumasi, to observe the one week rites of the death of his sister. The deceased, Mrs Josephine Kankam, popularly called Auntie Adwoa, was also the sister of Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, a former Minister of Defence; Nana Agyeiwaa and Nana Akosua Dufie. Mrs Kankam, the youngest sister of former President Kufuor, died at the age of 67 after a short illness. She left behind two children: Nana Owusu Afriyie IV, the Apagyahene of Kumasi, and Mr J.R. Kankam. Mrs Kankam was the wife of the late Dr Kwaku Kankam, a former Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club. Among the gathering were Mr Alan Kyerematen, a former Minister of Trade and Industry; Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, a former Chief of Staff; Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the running mate of the NPP presidential candidate in the 2012 general election; Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, a former Minister of Information. Others were Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the MP for Manhyia, relatives of Mrs Kankam; the District Chief Executive for Kwabre, Alhaji Akwasi Yeboah, and his wife, Ms Tina Mensah.
