African Air Expo 2014 Launched in Accra

The Minister for Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, has inaugurated an 18 member Local Organising Committee (LOC) to take charge of all the preparatory and other related issues of the African Air Expo 2014 which is scheduled to take place in October in Accra. In her inaugural address. Mrs Attivor said the key objective of the Ministry was to establish Ghana as a transport hub of West Africa, hence the need to organise events such as the Air Expo to showcase the different opportunities available in the aviation industry in Ghana and the African Continent as a whole. She mentioned that the aviation industry in Ghana had seen a boost since 2011 and could be attributed to the liberalised aviation policies, stable political climate, and the general conducive business environment in the country. She stated that the event would provide a fruitful forum from which stakeholders could interact with prospective investors in the achievement of Government Policy of Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the development of the aviation infrastructure and services. She added that the show would also ensure that stakeholders were in tune with the dynamics of the industry where they could share their experiences, findings, and new investments. Mrs Attivor disclosed that the objective of the event was to create the awareness within Africa and the Global Aviation that investment in Ghana, in whatever form would be of great benefit to both Ghana as well as the investors. She observed that Ghana�s fast growing economy had made it an ideal choice for investors and could boast of an aviation industry which gave access to 250 million people in ECOWAS and one Billion in Africa and had led to its participation this year African Air Expo. She said the committee had representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Office of the President, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (MoTCCA), Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), National Security, State Protocol, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Ghana News Agency, International Bilateral Trade Council, and the Private Sector. She urged the members of the LOC to come up with pragmatic and innovative ideas to ensure that the event would be successful. The Mamfehene and Kyidomhene of Akuapem Traditional Area, Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III who chaired the occasion said the event would create further opportunities for industry players to create strategies for the growth of the industry. He called on corporate organisations to provide support to the Ministry in order to achieve its targeted goals. The Local Organising Committee was under the chairmanship of Mr Samuel Asante Duodu
