Six elders of Kade in the Kwaebibirem district of the Eastern Region, including the Okyenhene � who ignored court orders and security advice restraining them from holding any special event at Kade in the nature of installing a chief for the township � may face contempt charges.
The seven elders and the queen mother of Kade who spearheaded the event, were named as Obaapanin Akua Fosua, Abusuapanin Otibu Asare, Daasebre Nyarko Asomadu Appiah-Osewuohene, Odehye Yaw Twum Debrah, D.M. Ofori Atta, Sampson G. Nsonowah and Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene.
The plea as contained in the ruling of Justice Henry Kwofie of a Koforidua High Court in suit number D16/51/14 on Friday, February 7, 2014 � in respect of a motion on a notice filed by Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, Kadehene, for an order to prohibit the holding of a special event in the nature of installing a chief at Kade � was granted.
An earlier Circuit Court order at Akim-Swedru also charged Daasebere Nyarko Asumadu Appiah, a respondent in the suit, to keep the peace in the locality until a time that the court would allow them to hold any such function.
The seven, who are referred to in the ruling as Respondents, bent on achieving their purpose of installing a new chief on the basis that the people lacked any confidence in Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, went ahead to supervise and install a new candidate secretly out of the town.
Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, who spoke to the DAILY GUIDE, said he was installed more than a decade ago during which time he served his people in all fairness to win their confidence.
He however, expressed worry about what he described as the sudden position of the Judicial Committee of the Akyem Traditional Council supporting his destoolment � having on three sittings been said that his opponents� arguments lacked merit.
A section of the youth said they did not need a new chief in the town as they had no basis to do so.
They argued that the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has no mandate supervising or installing a Chief out of one�s community, and described the action as �unfortunate.�
