Mahama Cannot Implement Free SHS - Dr. Asibey-Yeboah

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for New Juabeng South, Dr. Mark Asibey-Yeboah, is skeptical about the successful implementation of a free Senior High School (SHS) policy by government next year. According to him, the proposal by President John Mahama is just a propaganda stunt just to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians. Dr. Asibey-Yeboah made the comment on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday after President John Mahama announced the implementation of the free SHS policy next year. At an estimated cost of GH 71 million, the president said the fees for day students will be abolished. As part of measures to improve access, President Mahama said sod cutting for the construction of 200 community Senior High Schools across the country will start by 3rd of March 2014. But Dr. Asibey-Yeboah said the free SHS under the Mahama-led administration is not possible. He explained that the government has not done any background work to ascertain the viability of the policy they are proposing. The New Juabeng South MP cited how a government, which promised to build 50 schools in a year, failed to lay even a block to buttress his point. President Mahama did not believe in free SHS so why now. NDC should know that 2014 is not an election year so leave out the propaganda and debate policies he stressed. Commenting on the Presidents address to Parliament, Dr. Asibey-Yeboah said he was disappointed in the delivery. He stated that President Mahama who has been in power for six years delivered his State of the Nation Address like someone who is under job training. Dr. Asibey -Yeboah added the speech was a cut and paste of the 2013 address in a desperate attempt to "fulfill a constitutional obligation". However, the NPP MP said, my only consolation was that President Mahama could not mention the Better Ghana Agenda because he knows the economy is messed up
