Govt To Complete UG Teaching Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians of governments commitment to complete a 600-bed new Teaching Hospital in University of Ghana (UG) on time to help ease the pressure on the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH.) Delivering his State of the Nation Address on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, President Mahama expressed worry over the congestion at the KBTH; hence the decision for the government through the University of Ghana to source a loan facility of US$217 million from the Israeli government to construct the health facility at Legon. According to the president, when completed all the universitys constituent institutions would be relocated from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital at Mamprobi to the new hospital. This project will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for trauma and emergency service with a heliport and internal medicine including surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, paediatrics, cardiology, heart surgery and medicinal imaging. He debunked claims by political figures and critics of his government that the economy is probably sick and retrogressing. According to him, economic growth was robust at an estimated 7.4 per cent last year, and we still retain our vision to accelerate and maintain GDP growth at above 8 per cent going forward. said the president. He noted that the agriculture sector which faced a few challenges in the previous years, due to some difficulties in the cocoa sector, still posted a significant growth of 3.41 per cent.
