Nana Kodua Apologizes To President Mahama

Nana Kojo Kondua VI, paramount chief of Edina Traditional Area on Friday apologized to President John Dramani Mahama for the confusion that disrupted the sod-cutting for commencement of work on a fish processing plant. He attributed his conduct and that of his colleagues and following to misinformation and miscommunication, a situation he said would not be repeated in future. The Paramount chief gave this apology when President Mahama interacted with chiefs and fisher-folks at Elmina Bantama as part of his two- day official visit to the Central Region. In July last year, the chief and others boycotted the sod-cutting programme for commencement of work on a fish processing plant in Elmina explaining that it was too close to the sea among other reasons. The situation created a division among the fisher-folks in the traditional area as some of them swore not to have anything to do with the plant. It took government intervention team a great deal of time to resolve the confusion as a result of which the chief was compelled to swallow back his words as was put out by the media last year. The chief explained that they would continue to support government policies to enhance the economic and social opportunities among the fisher-folks in the community and beyond. President Mahama, who earlier addressed the gathering expressed satisfaction that the confusion had been resolved over the months and appealed to them to pay promptly for the fishing inputs to enable government to acquire more for others.
