Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have vowed to work according to international standards which require that each doctor attends to only three patients a day. It follows the Health Ministry�s warning it will sanction negligent staff of the Hospital who played a role in the case of the missing baby. The doctors' resolve is to avoid mistakes made as a result of the pressure on them imposed by the huge numbers that visit the facility daily. The hospital has been in the news for the past three weeks because a family is demanding the body of a baby nurses claimed had died. Aggrieved family members attacked some doctors and nurses as a result, leading to a strike by the health workers. An investigation by the Health Ministry revealed some processes were not duly followed with a directive for the hospital to account for five babies declared dead that same day. Ohemeng Tawiah with Nhyira FM in Kumasi reported that the doctors at KATH are not the least enthused with the directives given by the ministry. Some of the doctors say the hospital is being sacrificed and are surprised at how the issue has been turned into a near media war between the ministry and the hospital. They say they are no longer sure exactly what issue the ministry is interested in- the missing babies or negligence by doctors and health workers. Meanwhile management is preparing to respond officially to the recommendations by the Ministry. The hospital has also disclosed it has set up a five member committee to investigate another issue of negligence in which family of one Solomon Mensah are accusing hospital authorities of negligence leading to the death of Mr Mensah.
