Wa Campus Loses Seven Lives Through Accidents

The Wa Campus of the University for Development Studies has lost seven students through various accidents 62 days into 2014. The latest victim, Master Abdul-Ganiu Nashiru, a Level 400 Integrated Management Studies (IMS) student died on Monday morning in a motor accident which occurred opposite the Wa SSNIT flats. According to eyewitnesses, the deceased who was accompanied by his colleague Owusu Ansah Solomon as pillion rider attempted overtaking an articulator truck ahead of them on their way to the campus for lectures. In the process, he ran into a KIA truck with Registration Number GT 3135 � 11, a water distribution vehicle belonging to Sahel Natural Mineral Water Company which resulted in the fatal accident. Nashiru died instantly while Solomon was rushed to the Wa Government Hospital in critical condition. The Driver of the vehicle, Abubakar Abdul Rahaman, 36, is also on admission at the same hospital with minor injuries, the Regional Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, said. In January this year, an accident of a Metro Mass Bus on the Wa-Kumasi road led to the death of three students of the Wa campus, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries. In February, three female students of the University sustained severe burns in a fire outbreak at their residence and were airlifted to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra where they all died.
