Atuabo Gas Plant Ready

Work on the Gas Processing Plant at Atuabo is expected to be completed by end of March, this year. The project, which started in the last quarter of 2011, will initially produce 120 million standard cubic feet of gas per day when completed. Emmanuel Kofi Armah-Buah, Minister of Energy and Petroleum, who was briefing the media after a meeting with the Task Force in charge of the project at Atuabo, said work on the project had progressed impressively since the last meeting of the Task Force. We are sure the project would be completed before the March 31 deadline, he stated. Armah-Buah said the plant would start operating immediately after the completion of the project, adding that tests would be carried out on the pipes to detect any leakages. He said the plant would start production by July, this year. George Sipa Yankey, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Gas Company, said equipment for the project would be airlifted to meet the completion deadline. The gas processing plant project, estimated at 750 million dollars, is being executed by Sinopec Incorporated, a Chinese firm. Meanwhile, David Xu, Technical Director of Sinopec, said between 40 million and 60 million standard cubic feet of gas would be used for the test-run to warm up the machines for a week. After the engineers have approved the test-run, lean gas would be supplied to the VRA for power generation, he said. He also expressed optimism that by the middle of May, this year, VRA would start receiving gas. He said the project was 95 per cent complete and that they were expecting some chemicals and parts of a spherical tank from South Africa to enable them to complete the project. Xu said the gas plant would produce 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
