Student Killed By Hit And Run Driver

A 27 year old form one student of the Kumasi Senior High School, Akwasi Agyekum, met his untimely death at about 5:00 am on Tuesday, when he was knocked and killed by a hit and run driver. Eyewitnesses who later saw the body of the student in a pool of blood say he could have survived if the driver had been generous to convey him to the Hospital. The accident occurred at the Yegoala Junction at Ahodwo in Kumasi. The one-time business student, who was until his death offering science with the hope of becoming a medical doctor in future, was on his way to school when the accident occurred. Akwasi Agyekum, who was a petty trader on the streets of Kumasi, was being taken care of a by a Good Samaritan who picked him from the street and sent him to school. The Good Samaritan, Madam Monica Asante, who was sponsoring the deceaseds education because of his poor financial background, told Ultimate Radio amidst tears, that she was in utter shock at the sudden demise of his future medical doctor, whom he had convinced to change his course to pursue science. She told Ultimate Radios Nana Oye Diabene that the deceased left home early Tuesday dawn for school. At about 5:15am this morning, I was in the bathroom when he called my name and said that, Grandma, I am going to school. Later I left for church. Just when I came back, my son called me and said there has been an accident and that Akwasi has been sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. I asked how bad it was and he said he didnt know and that my eldest son will give me details. My son called me again to say he had been sent to the mortuary so I should go to the Asokwa police station. The Guardian, who was accompanied by the deceaseds poor biological mother to the police station, wept uncontrollably. They are hopeful police will arrest the hit and run driver for justice to prevail. He always uses that road to the Ahodwo roundabout to pick a car to Kumasi High School. How can you hit somebody and then leave the person on the road just like that? Supposing the boy is a family member of his, could he have left him even when he was bleeding profusely? Whoever did that will never have his freedom if he doesnt report to the police station. I call this boy (the deceased) a doctor because he wanted to do medicine. My doctor has been killed, adi aye me; to wit, I am doomed. Asokwa MTTD Commander, ASP Kinsley Kawodie, told Ultimate Radio investigations have commenced to arrest the driver.
